Low Protein Cat Food

No pet owner would want their pet to suffer from any disease, particularly kidney disease. Kidney failure is among the top causes of death among cats, and if you really care about your pet you will do everything you can to save them from kidney disease or help them prevent getting it.

Low protein cat food is a time tested cure to kidney stones and other kidney disorders in cats. This is because if the diet is low in protein, filtering out all the harmful substances will not be too hard, reducing the pressure on kidney and thus avoiding kidney failure and other diseases. Veterinarians would recommend this to every animal patient suffering from kidney diseases.

While it is myth that high protein cat food would directly cause kidney diseases, the practice of feeding your cat with low protein diet is fairly popular. And this practice is based on solid foundations.

I understand where your article is coming from but physiologically it is not sound. The kidneys filter Urea, bilirubin and nitrogen. Nitrogen is a waster product from the protein. These waste products are filtered out by the kidneys, based on the amount of hydration present. Hydration is the key to the kidney failure in any mammal. Good hydration is the essential issue with foods. More fluids are better.
